AGE IS THE MOST VALUEABLE GIFT
The scholars say, we will not know healthy favors, unless we gather with sick people. We will not understand the blessings of wealth, except after we gather with the poor. We will not know the blessings of opportunity that Allah has given us, except after we gather with people who are super busy.
Tonight, we will discuss a very interesting topic, which is related to a person’s age. Age of a person is an asset and a gift that Allah sent down and Allah gave to His servants, the most valuable, the most expensive, maybe even, there is no price that can appreciate it, nothing. Because one second has passed, if we want to return it with any amount of money, we won’t be able to, we won’t be able to. Until that age is our main asset, we are healthy, qualified in science, but it turns out that we have no age, if we run out of age then it’s gone. We are healthy now, we have a gift from Allah Ta’ala, an abundant treasure, but before we use it, if we run out of age then it’s gone. All the pleasures and all the assets that Allah gave to all of us, when we have run out of age, then the age which is everything Allah gave to us, is no longer useful.
Therefore, it is appropriate if Allah SWT perpetuates age or time, the time that passes to humans is the best of gifts. So that then made Allah Ta’ala as his oath in the Quran it is stated:
وَالْعَصْرِ (1) إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ (2) إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَاْاْ
For the sake of time, really, humans are at a disadvantage, except those who believe, and do good, and advise each other for the truth and advise each other for patience.
The verse describes the loss related to time, so everyone in the time that has passed, he is one of the losers, except for three things.If he belongs to the three groups, then he is not the loser group, but if he does not belong to the three groups, then whatever he does, he is one of the losers.
Why is it said that you are the loser? Because she didn’t use such a large favor for what was supposed to be something big anyway. Who is excluded? First, illaladzina amanu, except those who believe. Who are the believers? A believer is a person who attains faith, a person who learns to become a believer, until it is said to be a believer. A person who spends such a long time learning how to be faithful and pious, until then he is called a believer.
That is what “believers” mean. What does it mean? The believer is not a title, not a stamp, not a stamp. Faith is an effort and effort, which we can always get the title or achievement. But if we don’t try and strive, it is impossible for us to become what we want, even if a believer is one of the main ones, because everything that is based, from the second and third which is excluded in the letter, is based on faith.
Believers are people who are given by Allah Ta’ala all kinds of goodness, however, the question here is how do we become believers? Do we dress in Muslim clothes, do we have faith? We wear taqwa clothes, we wear white caps, we wear white skullcaps, we wear sarongs, that means a believer? Not. A believer is a person who studies religion, until he knows what is required of him by Allah and what is forbidden by Allah on him. So that he carried out all his obligations and stayed away from all his prohibitions. What does it mean? Compulsory education. To whom? To anyone. Required. On the basis of the words of the Prophet SAW:
طَلَبُ العِلْمِ فَرِيْضَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ.
History of Imam Muslim in Sahih Muslim book. So learning religious knowledge is mandatory for every Muslim.
So here, it means that all means leading to faith are obligatory. Because faith is obligatory. So including from the rules:
مَا لَا يَتِمُّ الوَاجِبُ الَّا بِهِ فَهُوَ وَاجِبٌ.
An obligation that is not perfect except with something that must be passed, then something that must be passed is obligatory.
So learning to be a believer does not need a long time. You don’t have to stay in the pesantren, you don’t have to follow a religious leader every night until he leaves his job, no. It’s really simple, want to learn about fasting, basically all the Shari’a that are obliged to him when he has to do it, then he learns first. That’s all. Then it is added because we are a target of demons and cronies.
cronies, then of course we need capital. What for? To fight him, for what? Satan is a very clever creature of Allah. So if he tries this one that doesn’t work, he tries something else, tries another, it doesn’t work, tries another one, and so on until he does.
So when the devil on the day of Arafah, when the Muslims were forgiven for their sins for a year, the devil then took the soil and then sprinkled it on his head, why is that? Because because of that he was so pity on him, so suffering, hopeless, miserable because for a year he was trying to get the Bani Adam down, but apparently after the day of Arafah, all his sins were forgiven by Allah Ta’ala.
Just as when a believer dies in a state of faith, the devil also mourns for 40 days. Likewise, when he sees a believer, then dies in a disbelieving state, he makes a major, tasyakkuran, makes a Javanese word bancaan (eating meals together as a form of gratitude), for 40 days. Be grateful that Bani Adam has been led to death in a state like those of devils who do not believe.
So we need to be present every week, to attend Majelis Taklim as it is now, Majelis Taklim are closed for the common interest. So we present Majelis Taklim online. Please choose many ustadz-ustadz who make Majelis Taklim online. Please, there is no obligation to follow one or the other, no, and without any ta’assub / finitism there.
Then what we need to pay attention to here is the second. Namely, wa amilussholihat. Amilussholihat is not only that we know, but we practice it as said by the scholars:
العِلْمُ يَزْكُوْ بِالعَمَلِ.
Knowledge is zakat with charity.
Knowledge becomes holy, becomes clean, it is by charity. In other words, namely as said Habib Abdullah Al-Haddad:
العِلْمُ يَهْتِفُ بِالعَمَل فَإِن أجَابَ و الَّا ارْتَحَلَ
Knowledge that will require someone who has it to practice it. If he practices, then the light of his faith remains with him. But if he doesn’t practice it, it will go away from him and all that’s left is his send, but the blessing isn’t there.
How many today, people who have titles like me, doctorate degrees, Professor degrees, Alim degrees and so on, but he does not practice with his knowledge, it is not his blessing, because the light from that knowledge is not in him. Therefore, practice it. How do we standardize the practice of knowledge when it comes to compulsory matters, we must do that, if it is related to the sunnah, then maximize it for us to do it. Maximize, that is, it is not mandatory for everything because it is not mandatory. But maximize it, so that we add more capital to meet Allah Ta’ala, if it is related to mubah, please want to be abandoned, yes, want to be implemented, yes. Because it is related to mubah.
Then the last one, wa tawashou bilhaqqi wa tawashou bisshobr, that is the nature of every believer from among the people of the Prophet Muhammad. So whoever we are, be it a manager or the profession, as a security guard, as a trader, as a pious, as a civil servant, as anything else, then we have a title attributed to Allah Ta’ala in the Koran, namely, among the titles are:
كُنْتُمْ خَيْرَ أُمَّةٍ أُخْرِجَتْ لِلنَّاسِ تَأْمُرُوْنَ بِالمَعْرُوْفِ وَتَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ المُنْكَر
You are the best people there is. You always command with kindness, and forbid all kinds of evil.
So whoever we are, we should not come out of that realm, from that path line. Therefore, what we know and give advice to others, convey. Don’t let us say, “Wow, I can’t run it yet. Can I tell you? ” Convey, because this could be a savior for us.
